Part 2 of 10: Choosing the Content of Your Blog
Choosing the content suitable for your blog with the intention of earning money from it is the center of this 2nd posting of this 10 part series on blogging. Most topics you could choose would probably make some money, and if you have interest and know the topic, then use it.
Besides the subject of the blog, the biggest factor in the profitability of your blog is the method by which you set it up and how you write it. Information can be explained and written in many ways. Just like the difference between how a scientist might explain what happens when vinegar and baking soda are mixed and how a middle school science teacher might. You will need to adjust the way you write and explain things to suite the audience that will be interested in your subject.
Generally, people will enjoy reading your blog if you use an easy to understand and comprehend writing style. You don’t need to be a professional writer, just use correct grammar and write naturally. You might be able to pump out a 2000 word article with great details, but if it is dry and hard to read, it won’t be very popular.
Visitors are the most important part of making money with blogging, so to ensure you keep current ones coming back, make a human presence on your blog noticeable. Present yourself as a guru or expert in your blog’s subject, and keep the blog up to date.
When you write the blog, make sure to address all these visitors as if you were having individual conversations with them. Don’t lump them all into one big unit. This will give the illusion that they are your personal friend, and will give your blog a much better feel for them. This will result in more popularity for your blog.
In addition to making the blog have a more personal feel, exhibiting your personality through your blog will keep visitors interested. While a visitor might visit a blog about baking bread to learn about bread baking, they will be intrigued further if you talk about some of your break baking experiences. People like to know about other people’s lives. If you use that aspect by talking about your experiences that relate to your blog’s subject and put some of your personality into the blog, then it will be much stronger as a result.
The odds are that the subject you want to create a blog about is already out there. It might be very successful, or barely known, but it is probably there. Therefore, you need to separate yourself from these other blogs. The feel you give your blog, by the way you write your articles and posts, as well as the visual things like the blog title and theme/design, is going to be the major separating factor. This will be like your brand name, and you need to build it so it is strong.
To sum it up:
1. Choose a subject you know a lot about or you like
2. Write the posts/articles in a way that supports the subject of the blog
3. Don’t overcomplicate you writing
4. Present yourself as the expert/guru of your chosen subject
5. Make your visitors feel as though you are addressing them like friends by writing appropriately
6. Exhibit your personality in your blog
7. Separate your blog from other similar ones by creating “your brand”
